The Pinanga Project

Invasion by non-indigenous species is one of the most important issues in contemporary applied ecology and biogeography. Some invasive alien species (IAS) are able to cause fundamental changes in indigenous ecosystems, including the local extinction of native species. This project is designed along the example of a new – and regarding its potentially negative consequences unprecedented – invasion in Fiji´s forests: the rapid spread of ivory cane palm (Pinanga coronata).
